Long Island Compost, Long Island’s leading provider of organic materials, services and products, has been reviewed by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI).
OMRI is an international non-profit organization in Eugene, Oregon whose mission is to review products in order to determine whether they should be used in organic production and processing. OMRI determined that Long Island Compost products is be classified as “Allowed” for use in the Generic Material Listing: NOP: Compost – other (plant and animal materials), Class: Crop Fertilizers and Soil Amendments.
Long Island Compost, recently in partnership with Scotts Miracle-Gro, founded more than 30 years ago by brothers Charles, Arnold, and Dominic Vigliotti, has served Long Island by recycling yard waste into organic fertilizer and compost. This sustainable model has paved the way for the creation of American organic Energy, an innovative company that is poised to change the way organic waste is disposed on in the New York region and beyond with the groundbreaking anaerobic digester project set to begin construction this summer.
The OMRI status is the latest recognition for Long Island Compost’s commitment to organic principles and practices. Long Island Compost products and their website will now carry the OMRI seal and will be made available to subscribing certifiers, state programs and others in the upcoming OMRI Products List.
